This 47 year old athletic woman was unhappy with the appearance of her breasts. She has undergone augmentation many years ago by another surgeon, with 200cc saline implants placed in the subglandular position. Initially, she was very happy with the results, but with time she noticed that the shape of the breasts began to change and they felt more firm.
During our consultation, I discussed with her that this was due to capsular contracture, that her body was creating an aggressive scar capsule around the implant. This scar made the breast feel stiff, and changed the shape as well. She desired a softer, natural breast, with a full appearance.
I performed a complete capsulectomy with implant exchange to smooth round, high profile silicone gel implants. No drains were utilized. Her recovery was quick, and she was almost shocked at how soft her breasts felt and her wonderful appearance.
